Mountainland Applied Tech College
General Info
The mission of the Mountainland Applied Technology College (MATC) is to provide market-driven career and technical education to both secondary and adult students, which meets the demand by Mountainland Region employers for technically skilled workers. This is accomplished through competency-based education and training programs, which may be long term, short term, apprenticeship, or custom designed for individual employer needs. Many of the programs are offered in an open-entry, open-exit format providing flexibility for students and employers. Students are assisted in acquiring the basic skills necessary to succeed in these technical training programs. MATC prepares students to enter, re-enter, upgrade, or advance in the workplace, which contributes to the economic development, and improves the quality of life for Mountainland Region citizens. Mountainland Applied Technology College (MATC) was originally established as Mountainland Applied Technology Center in November 1989 under the guidance of the Mountainland Region Vocational and Technical Education Coordinating Committee (VTECC). VTECC consisted of the superintendents of the seven public school districts, the president of the state higher education institution and several private sector employers serving Mountainland Region (Summit, Utah, and Wasatch counties). Since becoming part of UCAT, MATC has established numerous programs granting certificates and two programs granting Associate of Applied Technology (AAT) degrees. MATC awards certificates of skill competency, proficiency, and completion and in January 2004 awarded its first AAT degree. The fifth annual Utah College of Applied Technology Report published in October 2006 describes MATC as one of Utah's fastest growing UCAT campuses. During the most recently completed fiscal year, MATC provided quality career and technical education and training to over 6,500 students and logged more than 600,000 student membership hours. We also offer classes for Commercial Truck Driving and Diesel Mechanics.
