Established in 1972, National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence is an independent, nonprofit academy that is responsible for the certification of repair and service professionals. It serves franchises, independent garages, fleets, service stations and car and truck dealerships. The institute offers certifications for automobile, truck equipment, school bus and collision repair technicians, as well as engine machinists, parts specialists, auto service consultants and collision damage estimators. National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence has expertise in the areas of brake and engine repair. It maintains an online testing and education center and administers refrigerant recovery and recycling programs. The institute coordinates the Blue Seal of Excellence Recognition Program, which is a recognition program for businesses.
