General Info
Gabriel Marrero, M.D. was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He obtained Board Certifications in Internal Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Interventional Pain Medicine. Dr. Marrero completed his Bachelor in Science at the University of Massachusetts (UMass) and his medical degree at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, where he was selected as a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. After graduation, he moved to New York City to complete an Internal Medicine Residency at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. After graduating from his residency in Internal Medicine, Dr. Marrero went on to attend the University of Miami School of Medicine to pursue another residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), where he was appointed Chief Resident. After completing his PM&R Residency, he was admitted to the fellowship program in Interventional Pain Medicine at the Emory Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine Department. After completing his fellowship program, he served as an associate professor for the Emory PM&R residency program. Dr. Marrero specializes in the treatment of spine and musculoskeletal related pain, as well as other pain conditions, such as neuralgias and complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). He is well-experienced in advanced interventional procedures, including kyphoplasty for vertebral compression fractures, minimally invasive lumbar decompression (MILD) procedure for lumbar spinal stenosis, spinal cord stimulation, peripheral nerve stimulation, and ultrasound guided injections. He also incorporates regenerative medicine into his practice through platelet rich plasma (PRP) and mesenchymal stem cell injections for tendon, joint, spine and disc disorders. He is a member of the Interventional Orthopedics Foundation (IOF), where he serves as a Spine Instructor. He has special interest in musculoskeletal disorders and sports medicine, having previously played collegiate Water Polo for UMass.
