Hammsterden Records was co-founded by brothers Gerald, 24, and Jared Sanchez, 28, and their seasoned musician-father, Joseph Sanchez Jr., out of the family's desire to record its own . As at the of Southern Nevada, the two brothers became interested in recording, but couldn't afford professional studio rates, which can quickly get expensive. Studio recording rates are priced by the hour or day. for a professional's day at The Studio at the Palms, for example, is $1,500. Cost for an unsigned artist is $100 per hour. Hourly rates at Hit Track Studios range from $75 for studio time to $175 for mastering. Average cost for a day is $1,000. Word spread around the College of Southern Nevada among that the brothers owned . They were approached by fellow who wanted to record but couldn't afford professional studio prices. Eventually, Hammsterden Records was born. "There's a market there," Jared said. "I thought I could provide good quality output without having to break the bank." Though they're still targeting , the studio is open to anyone, for a fee of $35 per hour. Since they founded their recording studio, the Sanchez family also landed themselves a five-month contract for their band, Machine Gun Dojo, to perform at The Beat Coffeehouse every Friday night. Once the contract expired the band moved on to host The Mecca every third Saturday at The Beat. Mecca aims to bring together , art, fashion and dance. "We're trying to bring different elements of culture to one spot," Jared said.
