Dr. Honken and staff have always shown care and compassion when treating my animals. I have been taking all of my animals to the Animal Health Center for years and would strongly recommend the clinic to others.
I've been going to Dr. Honken and his vet techs for years. He is the best orthopedic surgeon for dogs (and probably other animals), hands down. The service is always professional, skilled, and compassionate from the moment I walk in the door. Dr. Honken has fielded at least three night as well as weekend crises and dealt with two of them over the phone. I've had excellent experiences with one of my dog's ACL surgery and another dog's surgery to repair a broken hock. I can't recommend this facility enough. --Laura M.

I have never felt like more of an inconvience until i walked into the AHC office. I have been coming here for a while and love the vet techs and Dr's but the person at the front desk is never nice. When she finally goes out of her way to greet me, she acts as though i just ruined her whole day. Thank goodness for the professionalism of the dr's and techs that work there to come to the front ans smile and ask if i need help, or i would have left a long time ago. You would think i am not the only one who has experianced this cause i have seen it with my own eyes and have read it on here. She has plenty of times has treated me as though i have no idea what i am talking about. ITS MY DOG, i know what i am taking about. Word of advice, if it was my clinic i would get someone in there who welcomed you with a smile, and no matter what always left you with a good feeling leaving, instead of a angry feelings. Thanks. Please dont let this woman steer you from the other people there who ROCK.

Not only does Doc Honken really know his animals, he cares about them. The entire staff at the office has always been warm and wonderful to me and my 14 year old lab. This is a busy office and try to meet everyones standards quickly, and they always have your pets best interest in mind, even if you dont! I love them all out there and will always use them for all my future pets! I recomend this Vet to everyone who asks me! Thank you Doc Honken and Vet Fam! You Rock!

The Vets are Animal Health Center are absolutely top notch. Our animals have seen both and we have always been impressed with the care they received. It's too bad that the customer service and front desk assistants are such rude and disorganized professionals. To see the fantastic vets, one often has to wait without a greeting with several other patrons, and forgo common courtesies. I would also strongly advise keeping your own records, it was very difficult to get them to release needed documentation (for kennels etc.)

I love Doc Honken and he has been very good to my family. However, his administrative assistant is always less than helpful. Having spent many years working in the customer service industry, I am taken back by her demeanor. She is very short and rude, demeaning, knows nothing about vet laws, and lacks personal care when dealing with sick animals. We adopted an animal from the local shelter, when she went in to be spayed (awfully early in age btw), she was very sick. When we tried to get information regarding her illness, this unhelpful person would not tell us anything (and I mean ANYTHING). Because of her rudeness and unwillingness to assist anyone (with or without 2 legs), I will not be taking any animals back.

I'd give Doug more than 5 stars on this scale if I could. My cat is 15 years old and has been under his care for her entire life. I thank Doug's wife for that. Emma was quite ill when she she adopted me. At the time, the clinic that the Honkens were affiliated with was the last one in the yellow pages. Emma had an appt within 24 hours of my call. ALL other clinics in town told me to watch Emma for a few days and call back if she did not improve. He takes the time to talk with pets and their humans before, during, and after examinations. He is thorough and would not under, or over treat an animal. His staff is thorough in telling them what will take place during visits; boarding or hospitalizations in terms of immunization needs and others not only for the newcomers health, but for the others that he is accountable for.

I've been going to this vet for a year and every time I visit, I'm always a little let down with the service. A few weeks ago, I brought my dog in for a serious stomach problem. I left him there for the morning and they vaccinated him without calling me first. I'm not a vet and even I know you shouldn't vaccinate a sick dog. A week later my dog developed sores on all his joints and when I brought him in, Doug took all of five minutes with him and had be leaving the office in tears. Thankfully, I took my dog to two other vets in town who were shocked to hear about my experience, took the time to really check my dog out and even called for a follow up over the phone. I will never take my dog back to AHC and would not send anyone there who cares about their pets.
