- ColonoscopyA colonoscopy is the first and most important step in the fight against colorectal cancer. Since the procedure involves painlessly removing pre-cancerous polyps, colonoscopies not only detect cancer, but they can also prevent it. Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States, so early intervention is everything. They are typically recommended beginning at age 45 or earlier if you have risk factors, like a family history of colon cancer. Men and women both should be screened for colorectal cancer at least every ten years.

- Skin CancerSkin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer worldwide, but early detection can mean less invasive treatments with better outcomes. Because skin cancer is caused by sun exposure, it’s a good idea to have your skin examined by a dermatologist each year to identify suspicious moles, spots or changes that may indicate skin cancer.
- DermatologyRegular skin checks are crucial, especially if you have a family history of skin cancer or an increased risk of sun exposure. The family medicine team at KCH is happy to offer referrals for specialty dermatology care and provide guidance on how to increase your sun protection—reducing your risk of skin cancer in the future.
- Sports MedicinePreventive health screenings are part of a broader healthcare framework, and your primary care team plays a central role. In addition to year-round physical exams and a comprehensive referral network for specialty care and screenings, we also help our youngest patients get a head start on their health with sports physicals, beginning this spring.
