Dr. John Cunneen, a Physiatrist, helps patients with physical limitations or disabilities to improve or restore their functionality. He works with patients at our Grasslands Campus and the Bannasch Institute for Advanced Rehabilitative Medicine. Describe your clinical specialties. Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is a medical specialty that aims to enhance and restore functional ability and quality of life to those with physical impairments or disabilities affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles and tendons. Spinal Cord Injury Medicine focuses on the management of the acute, sub-acute and chronic complications related to diseases of the spinal cord, such as paralysis. What is your patient care philosophy? I believe that patients are entitled to the best quality medical care, easy access to their healthcare team, and partnership with their physician and other healthcare professionals to meet their medical and functional goals and needs. What would you like people to know about you as a physician?I have worked in this field for six years and am committed to enhancing the lives of my patients by implementing medical strategies that improve or restore function for a person who suffered an impairment or disability as a result of a disease, disorder or injury. What do you enjoy most about working with patients? I enjoy establishing a team approach with patients to assist them in reaching their medical and functional goals. It is truly rewarding to see the resilience and improvements of patients during their rehabilitation stay. Tell us about your family.I have a wife and two sons and we live in the Tampa Bay area.
