The Lake in the Hills Police Department, located in Lake in the Hills, Ill., is a full-service law enforcement agency. It supports the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program, which educates citizens about disaster preparedness for hazards and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations. The Lake in the Hills Police Department maintains a citizens police academy that provides training programs related to criminal laws, firearms instruction, defensive tactics, first aid, patrol procedures and investigation. The department maintains a K-9 unit that provides services for crime prevention and drug interdiction and enforcement, as well as assists other units with apprehension of suspects through the use of nonlethal force. The unit is also utilized in the search and rescue of lost and missing children and adults, as well as evidence recovery.
