- Medical Weight LossPatients are turning to new weight loss medications such as Ozempic to help bring the BMI to a satisfactory level. Dr. Paulson states that “There isn’t much research on the impact of these on these weight loss drugs as it relates to fertility and pregnancy.”
- Male InfertilityIt is important to remember that no fertility therapy, including Clomid, should be administered to the female until the semen analysis has been evaluated. Approximately 47 percent of all infertile couples will have a male infertility component.

- Gynecology“USC Fertility is committed to providing our patients with cutting-edge, evidence-based medical care,” added Richard J. Paulson, MD, director of USC Fertility, professor of obstetrics and gynecology and chief of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility with the Keck School. “We will continue to provide this high level of care and look forward to expanding our capabilities and additional contributions to research to advance the standard of fertility treatment.”
- Female InfertilityThe most common causes of female infertility include ovarian disease, tubal disease, endometriosis, uterine disease, cervical disease, immune disorders and a category known as unexplained infertility. “ Unexplained infertility ” means that a specific cause of infertility cannot be identified.
- Obstetrics
- EndometriosisMost patients should undergo a fertility workup prior to beginning any fertility drug treatment. There could be many causes of infertility in addition to ovulatory disorders, including endometriosis, tubal disease, cervical factor and others.
- Pregnancy“Women play an obvious role in reproduction, leading us to believe that the topics of fertility, pregnancy and childbirth are women’s issues, void of male involvement after they provided sperm,” she explains. “However, older men over the age of 45 are much more likely to have children than four decades ago, and yet few men recognize their biological clock is ticking as well.”
- Labor and Delivery
- UrologyDr. T. Mike Hsieh, the director of UCSD Men’s Health Center and professor of urology, tells Yahoo Life that although there is “not as much data” on male fertility as for females, it’s clear that “increased paternal age is associated with decline in sperm count, sperm quality, semen volume, testosterone and ability for sexual activity or erectile dysfunction.” While there isn’t a “specific cutoff,” what’s generally accepted as advanced paternal age starts at around 45.

- EndocrinologyWhat exactly does this collaboration mean? HRC Fertility will now be recognized as an affiliate of Keck Medicine of USC. This collaboration adds new research capabilities and expanded Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Fellowship training opportunities, which will be overseen by the Keck School.
- UltrasoundFertility tests will be ordered to assess ovarian function including the day 3 hormone evaluation (FSH, LH, E2 and others). Elevated levels of FSH on day 3 may indicate diminishing ovarian reserve and infertility. Ovulation may also be assessed using urinary test kits, progesterone hormone measurements, ultrasound visualization and other means.
- X-Rays
- ChemotherapyThe introduction of third party conception has undeniably expanded parenthood capabilities to infertile couples. Egg Donation is useful for patients who have ovarian failure, surgical castration or prior chemotherapy. With Egg Donation, the father contributes genetically and the recipient mother carries the baby.
- VasectomySubmit by Claire Perez Castillo Claire and Rod had one chance to get pregnant with in-vitro fertilization. One. Rod had a vasectomy before he met Claire, and rather than reversing it and hoping for a successful natural conception, the couple decided their best chance was with assisted reproductive technology and IVF. Claire credits Dr. David...
- HysterectomyWith Gestational Surrogacy, the resulting offspring is genetically related to the couple and the use of a carrier could spare the genetic mother from lifethreatening medical conditions that may be initiated or exaggerated by a pregnancy. It is also effective for patients who have undergone a hysterectomy, were exposed to DES or have a congenital absence of the uterus, but whose ovaries are preserved. In addition, patients who have had multiple miscarriages may also benefit from working with a gestational surrogate.
- LaparoscopyFertility specialists will usually treat conditions such as endometriosis during the diagnostic laparoscopy, which is one of the reasons a fertility specialist should perform the laparoscopy when infertility is suspected.
