Pranav Garimella, MBBS, MPH, is a board-certified nephrologist who provides care for a wide range of kidney diseases, including chronic kidney disease, glomerulonephritis, hypertension, and acute kidney injury. He has a special interest in polycystic kidney disease, kidney stones, and metabolic bone disease. A trained epidemiologist, Dr. Garimellas research focuses on understanding novel biomarkers of kidney function and how that information can be used to determine risk of kidney function decline, cardiovascular disease, bone health, and mortality. He is also interested in developing better methods to diagnose peripheral artery disease in persons with chronic kidney disease and those on dialysis. Dr. Garimella has authored book chapters and his work has been featured in numerous peer-reviewed medical journals, including Annals of Internal Medicine, Journal of the American Society of Nephrology and Current Opinion in Nephrology and Hypertension. He is an associate editor for BMC Nephrology, and serves as ad-hoc reviewer for multiple journals, including Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, Atherosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology, American Journal of Kidney Diseases, and Clinical Nephrology.Dr. Garimella has won many awards and honors over the years, including the Ben. J. Lipps Fellowship Award from the American Society of Nephrology (ASN), a top Oral Abstract by Trainee at the ASN Kidney Week 2014, and Best Poster by Fellow-In-Training from the American College of Cardiology Scientific Sessions 2016. He also speaks at local and national conferences.He completed a fellowship in nephrology at Tufts University School of Medicine, Tufts Medical Center in Boston and a residency in internal medicine at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County in Chicago. Dr. Garimella earned his medical degree (MBBS) from the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research in Puducherry, India. He obtained a MPH in epidemiology from University of Minnesota, School of Public Health in Minneapolis. He is board-certified in nephrology and internal medicine.Dr. Garimella is a member of several professional medical societies, including the American Society of Nephrology, the American Heart Association and the National Kidney Foundation.
