Peter Curtin, MD, is a board-certified hematologist and oncologist who treats patients with blood-related cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, myelodysplastic syndrome and myeloma. In his role as clinical director of Blood and Marrow Transplantation at UC San Diego Health, he leads an interdisciplinary team of physicians, advanced practitioners, nurses, social workers and support staff.As a professor in the Department of Medicine, Dr. Curtin trains medical students and residents at UC San Diego School of Medicine. He conducts research and has published widely.Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Curtin was an associate professor in the Northwest Marrow Transplant Program at Oregon Health & Sciences University in Portland. He also was associate director at Chiron Corp. in Emeryville, CA, a multinational biotechnology firm that was acquired by Novartis. Other previous positions include assistant professor in hematology and oncology at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston and at UC San Francisco.Dr. Curtin completed a fellowship in hematology and oncology at UC San Francisco and a residency in internal medicine at North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill. He earned his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY.
