I can't believe my eyes! I wish I saw these reviews before I had Dr. JL Shewmaker III, DVM come out to see our dog. He gave him "routine" vaccinations on a Sunday night and Monday afternoon our dog was dead. He had no health problems and was healthy. I am hoping to prevent someone from using this vet- I can't believe he is able to practice with so many bad/negligent reviews!

I wish that I had seen the previous reviews prior to using this clinic, but I did not see them until after. I took 2 small dogs in for spays on the same day. About 2 hours after coming home, one was bleeding- badly. I rushed her to an ER- after being presented with a huge bill and the ER unwilling to work with me at all (even though this was the result of the work of another Dr.) the only way I had to save her life was to sign her over the ER- it was horrible. The next morning.. my other dog began to bleed- badly.. Same thing.. internal bleeding. I rushed her to a regular clinic that charged less than half of the ER so I was able to pay the full amount. She is alive and healing. I would not recommend this clinic. I have had dogs spayed before and have never had an issue like this- ever. I never imagined that taking my 2 healthy dogs to a licensed professional would result in them nearly dying from a routine procedure.. or that I would lose one due to massive costs to fix what as done.

We took our beloved pet there yesterday for a routine spay. She seemed fine in the early am but now is dead. We are all in total shock and are waiting for the doctor to call us. This man does not need to be practicing medicine. Don't think "cheap" is the way to go. We are calling around looking for someone to perform a necropsy. My son is devastated and we are thinking of filing a lawsuit for negligence. I wish I could give him a negative star rating. Do NOT take your dog here!!! The place was nasty inside also. Brought him a three-year-old German Shepherd to get spayed. Seven hours later he said come get your dog. Got there at 4 o'clock was told the dog was back in surgery. They said the dog was bleeding and they had to go back in. Doctor would not let me see her, two hours later received a phone call she was dead. This was a healthy dog when we brought her in. Two weeks later we got a card from the staff and never got any funds back for killing our dog. Learned later a friend had also lost two dogs from the same doctor.

Over the years everyone I know has called this clinic the dog killer, I'm talking at least 20 years. We lost a dog to them who went in with a broken leg a few years ago, my friend took in her perfectly healthy 1 year old dog in for a simple neuter operation, the dog never made it out. I wouldn't take a pet there if it was the last one left.
