- OphthalmologyDrs. Campbell, Cunningham, Taylor & Haun are Ophthalmologists that have been caring for the eyes of East Tennesseans since 1952. With that heritage as a strong foundation, the practice utilizes the most modern treatment techniques, featuring the latest in diagnostic and surgical equipment for general ophthalmology and retinal disease management and surgery.
- Macular DegenerationThe most frequently employed test is Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). This technique uses light waves to create three-dimensional images of the retina and choroid. It is painless and requires no contact or puffs of air. OCT has become a vital tool in the advancements in treatment for many diseases, but especially diseases of the macula, such as age related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
- Laser Eye SurgeryWhen the fire bell sounded, Dan Gibbs was left with three bad choices—throw on his glasses (which could interfere with his gear), try to insert his contacts while riding to the fire, or not see what he was doing once he got there. “There really wasn’t a good choice,” says Gibbs, “until I chose LASIK.”
- CataractsWith a family history of cataracts, Shirley was younger than most people who seek treatment. The staff of Drs. Campbell, Cunningham, Taylor & Haun was sensitive to this situation. “My fears were calmed by their caring and knowledgeable staff. They were thorough and informative,” she recalls. “They took the time to explain my options.”
- Cataract SurgeryCataracts affect millions of people each year. In fact, by age 65, more than half of all Americans will have developed cataracts or already had cataract surgery. Cataract surgery is one of the most commonly performed surgeries, with millions of successful procedures being performed each year in the United States alone. The board-certified Ophthalmologists at Drs. Campbell, Cunningham, Taylor & Haun are experienced medical professionals who offer the most comprehensive care and advanced technology in East Tennessee for the treatment of cataracts.
- Eye ExamA referral to your Knoxville Retina Specialist with Drs. Campbell, Cunningham, Taylor and Haun, patients will receive a thorough eye examination to screen for, diagnose and treat diseases of the retina. Your retina specialist may recommend additional testing.
- ThyroidDry eyes occur when too few tears are produced or when the tears produced do not function normally. In either case, dry spots form on the outer surfaces of the eye. In most cases, there is no underlying disorder behind the dry eye. In some cases, dry eyes are associated with allergies, thyroid disease, arthritis and other connective tissue disorders.
- Diabetic RetinopathyYour Retina Specialist may use another key test called Fluorescein Angiography. During this procedure, dye is injected through a vein in the arm. Images of the retina are taken. This allows your retina specialist to assess the blood flow to the eye. Like OCT, fluorescein angiography is useful in many diseases, but especially vascular diseases, such as diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein/artery occlusions, and age related macular degeneration.
- UltrasoundOther tests your retina specialist may utilize include Ocular Ultrasound and Visual Field Assessments. Ultrasound employs sound waves to visualize the eye and make measurements on tumors or potential malignancies. Visual field testing assesses peripheral vision and can be affected by any disease process in the pathway from the brain to the eye.
- BotoxPrescription BOTOX® treatments are tailored to effectively meet individual patient needs while protecting vision. For example, simple BOTOX procedures can help eliminate eyelid and facial twitching, helping to improve vision and quality of life. Treatments also can be used to help restore a more youthful appearance by smoothing out folds, crevices and wrinkles in the corner of the eyes or in between the eyebrows.
