- CryotherapyIn office procedure using a gas bubble and either cryotherapy or laser to help reattach the retina. The gas bubble helps to temporarily seal the retinal breaks/holes while your body removes the fluid from underneath the retina. The laser or cryotherapy will help to form a permanent scar to keep the retina attached. Your surgeon will ask you to position in a specific way to cover the holes/tears.
- Smoking CessationTherapy varies based on patient condition but include AREDS2 vitamins, self-monitoring with Amsler grid, and smoking cessation.
- Emergency CareStaff was wonderful! I called this morning in a panic about an urgent eye matter and I spoke to Leena. First off, she answered my call vs having me leave a voicemail as a lot of offices do. She was kind, patient, incredibly helpful and she was able to get me a same-day appointment. Unheard of! Especially for a new patient. I was very concerned about my eye issue and had been told by several other offices that I couldn’t be seen until May or June and that I should go to an emergency room. Leena took the time to listen to details of my issue and said I could be seen today. Such a relief.
- GlaucomaPatient symptoms include decreased vision, blurred vision, and metamorphopsia (distortion). Common risk factors for this condition include glaucoma, hypertension, and diabetes.
- OphthalmologyRetina specialists are specialized eye doctors who treat only diseases of the retina. We are medical doctors that are board certified in Ophthalmology, a specialty of medicine/surgery that deals with the diseases of the eye and the surrounding tissues. These tissues include the eye lids, eye muscles, eye orbit/socket, optic nerve and the optic tracks as they run from the back of the eye to their final destination in the occipital lobe, in the back of the brain. Because of the many different aspects necessary for the proper function of the eye, ophthalmology has been divided into a number of subspecialties. One of these is the specialty of retina. Becoming a retina specialist requires a two-year fellowship beyond the standard ophthalmology residency.
- Macular DegenerationThe macula accounts for a patient’s “central vision.†Age related macular degeneration is characterized by drusen (deposits under the retina ), pigmentary changes, loss of retinal tissue, and hemorrhage on exam.

- Cataract SurgeryThe retina specialist focuses his work on the retina, which is the sensory portion of the eye, the vasculature that supports the retina, and out of necessity, the vitreous which is the jelly material that fills the central cavity of the eye. The retina specialist is most often called upon when vision can no longer be improved after appropriate glasses have been prescribed and/or cataract surgery is performed to determine the cause of the persistent decreased vision, or when any abnormality is noted in the back of the eye on routine eye examination.
- Eye ExamThe retinopathy from Diabetes can affect the eye in multiple ways. Often, the changes can develop and progress to an advanced state before causing noticeable symptoms in the vision. Thus, all patients with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes should get a dilated eye exam with an experienced primary eyecare provider EVERY YEAR.

- Diabetic RetinopathyDiabetic Retinopathy is one of the leading causes of vision loss in Americans. This is particularly true in the Southeastern United States, and especially in the metro Orlando area.
- Skin Cancer
- LesionsOther macular problems include hereditary conditions, or the result of a number inflammatory conditions or infections, such as Histoplasmosis, Toxoplasmosis, AIDS, etc. These conditions may also affect the peripheral retina. Other conditions which can affect the macula include vitreo-macular traction syndrome, pseudophakic macular edema, macular pucker and macular hole. Peripheral retinal conditions which would involve a retinal specialist include retinal tears and/or retinal detachments, diabetic retinopathy, hypertensive retinopathy, and tumors (both primary and metastatic), to mention just a few. Vascular lesions include both arterial and venous occlusive disease, which may be either central or branch, and vascular anomalies. Ocular trauma often falls into the realm of the retina specialist because there is usually bleeding into the eye with retinal damage. This type of retinal damage may include giant retinal tears, retinal dialysis, macular swelling, and retinal hemorrhage. Also when eye trauma occurs there may be a rupture of the globe and/or a foreign body within the eye.
