- Dental ExaminationCavity detection is one of the most important aspects of dental care. The standard dental exam checks teeth for cavities via x-rays and with manual assessment of the teeth. Essentially, soft spots on teeth indicate decay. The DIAGNOdent cavity detection tool is quick and convenient. As we move the small device over teeth, areas of potential decay "light up" so we can easily find them. In many cases, cavities are detected before they show up on other forms of imaging.
- X-raysAside from the concentration of mercury in amalgam fillings, which is a concern to many patients today, there are disadvantages to this material that we find significant. Amalgam contains several metals. Metal restorations cannot be seen through on dental x-rays. This means that a problem may be hidden from view. Because the margins, or borders, of amalgam fillings weaken over time as a result of expansion and contraction, the development of decay beneath the filling is a very real possibility. Also, this expansion and contraction eventually causes tiny fractures in the natural tooth structure, making it vulnerable to further damage. On a cosmetic level, teeth with old amalgam fillings can become darkened as the material is absorbed into the enamel.

- Dental SealantsWe take dentistry at their pace! As our young patients allow, we will check their teeth and gums. These early checks provide us with the opportunity to prevent cavities and infection with sealants and cleanings, and with guidance on home care.
- FillingsBecause amalgam fillings contain mercury, the removal of existing fillings should be handled with care. Dr. Kelley performs amalgam removal after placing a rubber dam around the tooth to isolate it from the rest of the mouth. The tiny particles of mercury that come away from the filling as it is drilled down are caught by the rubber sheeting, rather than absorbed into the skin in the mouth or on the face. As the procedure is performed, high volume suction is also kept near the mouth to immediately extract particles from the area.
- Resin CompositeDr. Kelley uses fillings that are made from composite resin. This material is durable, non-toxic, and cosmetically appealing. Unlike silver-colored fillings made from a mix of metals, including mercury, these non-metal fillings retain their beauty. They do not oxidize and darken over time. They also preserve the health of the surrounding tissues. In a conservative procedure, minimal natural tooth structure must be removed to prepare the tooth for a composite filling. After the tooth is prepared, the material is applied in layers and eventually bonded to the underlying tooth. We can perfectly color-match the material to the surrounding tooth. So, it blends in beautifully with the rest of your smile.

- CrownsCrowns have traditionally been made from metal, or a metal base covered with dental ceramics, such as porcelain. Dr. Ann Kelley does not place crowns made from metals. Instead, she places all-porcelain or ceramic restorations. Unlike metal restorations, ceramic dental materials are...
- BridgesDental crowns preserve natural teeth. Dental bridges fill gaps to complete your smile. Patients at Kingsgate Dental Clinic of Kirkland, WA, benefit from crowns and bridges made from biocompatible materials. These materials are natural-looking and also support lasting health and functionality.
- Root Canal TreatmentCrowns may be recommended to restore the appearance of a poorly-shaped or very discolored tooth. They are also a common restorative treatment. Crowns may be recommended to restore natural function and oral health to teeth that are decayed or broken. These damaged teeth cannot be restored adequately with fillings, dental inlays, or dental onlays (partial crowns). Often, crowns are placed following root canal therapy to “save” a badly infected or extensively decayed tooth. The dental ceramic is shaped to cover up the prepared natural tooth structure. This shaped material is then placed to securely fit over the natural tooth, similar to how a crown or cap snugly fits the head. Crowns should be cared for like natural teeth. No special tools or products are required to keep your repaired teeth healthy for life.
- DenturesSome of the most common complaints associated with conventional dentures can be avoided from the get-go with expert preparation and exacting planning. For instance, dentures that slide around and result in painful sores do not conform well to the contours of your mouth. Likewise, ill-fitting dentures also cause embarrassing slip-ups when you laugh or speak. They can hamper your ability to eat food comfortably. You may avoid foods that you once enjoyed. Do not blame the denture; blame the fit!
- Dental ImplantsWhen you lose a tooth, you also lose its root, and this sets up a progression of complications. With dental implant treatment, these complications can be prevented.
