ARCHITECTURE AND GARDEN DESIGN IN THE TROPICAL TRADITIONS Life on the edge of the Caribbean calls for a response by the designer of buildings and gardens in the Florida Keys unlike any other region in the country. At DAVID KNOLL, ARCHITECT we strive for the best response to our tropical and social environments for all our clients, in both historic and contemporary styles. When called on to provide building services in the Key West Historic District, we have an excellent understanding of both the process and guidelines of the Historical Architectural Review Commission which enables us to obtain approval for our clients’ projects. When our clients prefer a contemporary environment, we have the experience and the enthusiasm to combine modern spaces and materials with tropical ambiance. Depending on the client’s needs and budget, we can offer a range of levels of service, from the drawings that are the minimum requirements by the Building Department for permit acquisition to a “full service” package of design, construction documents, bidding process and construction administration. In addition, we are qualified to certify our buildings for structural performance during hurricanes. Prior to establishing his services in the Florida Keys in 2001, David had extensive experience as designer and project architect for a prestigious architectural firm in Boulder, Colorado. The skills garnered from this work has resulted in an architectural practice that combines design sensitivity, technical faculty and dedication to the principle of achieving the highest level of quality possible for his clients.
