- DemolitionThis project consisted of removing and replacing the U.S. Highway 90 Bridge across Biloxi Bay, which was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The project included the design and construction of a 1.6-mile long divided bridge, providing six lanes of traffic across the bay on a nearly parallel alignment to the old bridge. Work included the demolition and removal of the existing bridge and roadway debris. It also included the demolition and replacement of an 800-foot long bridge over the CSX Transportation Railroad and associated embankment, roadway and electrical items. In addition to the bridge scope, the project included reconstruction of the foreshore protection along the bay's shore.
- Foundation Installation
- ExcavationMariners should also expect construction equipment to be in place and at work from now until the end of July for the removal of the current bridge protection system and excavation work. Tows and barges will be working in the vicinity, but the navigation channel will remain clear for traffic. The drawbridge will continue to operate as usual. Mariners should contact the mv. Dutchman when approaching the bridge for to-the-minute information on construction work.
- DecksMassman completed the construction of the Nucor Steel Louisiana LLC ship unloading/barge loading dock facility on the Mississippi River near Convent, LA. The facility offloads ocean going ships loaded with iron ore. The iron ore is transferred to a processing plant on land by a conveyor system. After processing the ore, the reduced iron is returned to the dock facility for loading onto barges for shipment to other steel mills which produce steel plate and shapes. The project included the installation of the foundations for the offloading and loading structures, construction of reinforced concrete decks for conveyor transfer and hopper buildings, and installation of guidewalls and mooring dolphins for both ocean going ships and inland barges.
