General Info
K. Shawn LyBarger, DO, MS(R), is a Gynecologic Oncologist with Sarah Cannon at HCA Midwest Health. He serves as the Division Director for Gynecologic Oncology. He is the Medical Director for the Kansas City Institute of Robotics, where he is involved in building the robotics programs in the Kansas City area. In addition, he is the Director for Clinical Trials and Research, where is strives to offer the best and most up to date clinical trial options for his patients. Dr. LyBarger serves women in and around Kansas City and is committed to providing exceptional care to those affected by female cancers. He has a broad and extensive academic and research background that has provided him with knowledge and training in the latest advances in gynecologic oncology, and he is passionate about continuing to learn through all means. He also has training in advanced robotics which allows faster recovery, less pain, quicker return to work, and tiny incisions for even the most difficult cancer cases. He started an Enhanced Recovery Program in several hospitals to allow for faster and better recovering after both robotic and major open surgeries. Dr. LyBarger was nominated to be the national resident research and awards representative for the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and was honored several times during his training for academics, teaching, research and service. He is also an Assistant Professor at UMKC School of Medicine and is actively involved with teaching the residents for Truman Medical Center. In addition to his practice, Dr. LyBarger serves in numerous other professional leadership positions. He spends much of his off time participating in medical mission work in underserved areas in various countries. His areas of interest in research and treatment include advanced ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, robotics for treating all female cancers, and sentinel lymph node mapping.
