The Kansas City, Kansas Housing Authority, chartered in 1957, owns and manages more than 2,000 public housing units and over 800 Section 8 certificates and vouchers. It operates a federal rent subsidy program for eligible low-income households living in privately owned housing. The Kansas City, Kansas Housing Authority maintains various housing management divisions, such as family, resident and social services and resident selection. The housing authority features several community and child care centers, Christmas shops and resident associations. The Kansas City, Kansas Housing Authority undertakes a variety of special activities, including the National Youth Sports Program, Kidzone, Hotwheels, summer swimming, Easter egg hunt, Christmas adoption, and awareness and readiness for undergraduate program.
