- Dental ExaminationThe older the patient, the more likely an impacted eye tooth will not erupt by nature’s forces alone even if the space is available for the tooth to fit in the dental arch. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that around the age of seven, a panorex screening x-ray along with a dental examination be performed in order to count the teeth and determine if there are problems with the eruption of the adult teeth.

- DenturesIf bleeding persists, call our office immediately. Do not remove immediate denture unless the bleeding is severe. Expect some oozing around the side of the denture.
- OverdenturesBoth upper or lower dentures (also known as overdentures) can be secured using dental implants resulting in a more stable and secure method than conventional dentures can offer.
- Dental ImplantsOver a period of time, the jawbone associated with missing teeth atrophies or is re-absorbed. - Gum SurgeryShortly after surgery (1-14 days) the patient will return to the orthodontist. A rubber band will be attached to the chain, which will put a light, eruptive pulling force on the impacted tooth. This will begins the process of moving the tooth into its proper place in the dental arch. This is a slow, carefully controlled process that may take up to a full year to complete. Remember, the goal is to erupt the impacted tooth, and not to extract it! Once the tooth is moved into its final position moved into the arch in its final position, the gum around it will be evaluated to make sure it is sufficiently strong and healthy to last for a lifetime of chewing and tooth brushing. In some circumstances, especially those where the tooth had to be moved a long distance, there may be some minor “gum surgery” required to add bulk to the gum tissue over the relocated tooth so it remains healthy during normal function. Your dentist or orthodontist will explain this situation to you if it applies to your specific situation.
- Maxillofacial SurgeryDr. Greco started out as a nurse (neo – natal and pediatric ICU), which helped her work her way through dental school. She also graduated from the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania, with a triple major. She did her undergraduate prerequisites at Texas A&M University then Dental School at University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. By the time she finished dental school she had published 11 papers in their referred journals and had given as many presentations at the national and international meetings. She wanted to specialize in children with facial deformities. One of the routes was through dentistry with a specialization in oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS). Oral surgery education programs only take the top one – to – two percent in the class, and being a woman made it statistically even more difficult to qualify. (Of the practicing 6,500+ oral surgeons, less than 150 are female.) She graduated from the top ranked program in the country for OMFS – Louisiana State University at New Orleans.

Treating such a problem may involve an orthodontist placing braces to open spaces to allow for proper eruption of the adult teeth. Treatment could also require a referral to an oral surgeon for extraction of over-retained baby teeth and/or selected adult teeth, which that are blocking the eruption of the all-important eyeteeth. The oral surgeon will also need to remove any extra teeth (
