Dr. James Jastifer is a West Michigan native who grew up in Lowell, MI. From there, he attended Michigan Technological University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Biomedical Engineering. He then attended four years of medical school at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He spent the next five years completing his surgical internship and orthopaedic surgery residency at the Michigan State University Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies during its transition to the Western Michigan University School of Medicine. During this time, he received the resident leadership award, which provided him the opportunity to join the American Orthopaedic Association Emerging Leaders Program. He then went on to complete an additional one year foot and ankle surgical fellowship under the direction of renown surgeon Dr. Michael Coughlin at the Saint Alphonsus Foot and Ankle Clinic in Boise, Idaho. His clinical interests include complex lower extremity deformities, ankle reconstruction and replacement, foot and ankle sports medicine, and lower extremity fractures. He takes emergency call and is experience in the treatment of orthopedic trauma. He has published multiple peer reviewed articles and textbook chapters in the orthopeedic literature and actively teaches and collaborates with researchers at the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering at Western Michigan University. He is very excited to be practicing in Kalamazoo, joining the clinical faculty at the Western Michigan University School of Medicine Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Borgess Medical Center. He hopes to provide advanced and compassionate care to his patients, while contributing to the educational training of the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons.
