The Public Works Department, governed by the City and Borough of Juneau in Alaska, produces and delivers water for potable and fire suppression needs. The department also maintains and repairs drainage systems and retaining walls. It is responsible for the collection, treatment and disposal of wastewater. The Public Works Department provides public bus transportation services. It operates capital transit, fleet maintenance, waste management and wastewater utility divisions. The department s streets division is responsible for maintaining and repairing sidewalk, streets, stairways, storm drainage facilities and traffic control devices. It also maintains street appurtenances. The division is engaged in drainage, road surfacing, brushing and asphalt patching.
