The wolves are stunning to behold. I was astonished at the size of the Alaskan wolf not to mention the paws which are enormous and act as snowshoes in the cold environment from which they come. Such a great educational experience for my son and me. Our guide, Erin, was so knowledgeable I was wondering if there was anything she did not know about these beauties. The Mexican Grey Wolf is almost extinct as there are as few as 58 left in the wild. This facility has an active breeding and release program to reestablish the Mexican Grey into their former ranges. This is a non profit program and I was happy to visit the gift shop and pick up some pretty cool items at very reasonable prices. Memberships are sold (mine was $50). All proceeds go directly to the Julian Wolf Preserve. I also found out, through our guide, that wolves actually benefit their natural environments because their kills feed many animals and they don't hunt farm or ranch animals. I loved it and I am going back again!
