Powell Companies, founded in 1969, is a crane and steel erection company. It has various divisions, including mineral processing, crane, erectors and construction divisions. The company has a large fleet of cranes with capacities up to 300 tons. Its mineral processing division provides complete design and construction services for various types of mineral processing facilities and material handling systems. Its division constructs coal preparation plants, rock quarries, sand and gravel plants, as well as glass composting, pulp and paper, and industrial and materials handling facilities. The company s crane division has boom trucks with a capacity of up to 28 tons, terrain machines and conventional truck cranes of capacity up to 150 tons. Powell Companies is headquartered in Johnson City, Tenn., with other locations in Knoxville and Nashville, Tenn.; Beckley, W.Va.; and Roebuck and Charleston, S.C.
