Using technology developed for the medical device and pharmaceutical industries, Cosmed Group is now offering PO Express, an improved method for propylene oxide ( PO ) pasteurization of spices and herbs. Improved Microbial Reduction PO Express yields 10 to 100 times greater microbial reduction than conventional PO treatment of herbs and spices. Herbs and spices treated with PO Express meet industry standards for total plate count yeast and mold. Conventional PO pasteurization requires that treated materials be held for several days or even weeks to ensure that residual PO is reduced to safe levels meeting regulatory requirements. PO Express provides aeration during the treatment process allowing products to be released immediately following pasteurization.
