Located in Jamaica Plain, Mass., Springhouse is a nonprofit retirement community home that provides residential support and health care facilities to senior citizens. It has various residential options, such as the Woodside, Ledgemont and Allen House. The center provides various treatment for individuals affected with Alzheimer's disease and related disorders. Its amenities include sunfilled parlors, informal lounges, gardening room and libraries. The center also has walking trails and fitness rooms. It offers various wellness programs and recreational and social activities. Springhouse s apartment features fully-equipped kitchen and multiple cable television outlets. In addition, it features heating and air conditioning, washer and dryer connections, and smoke detectors and sprinkler systems. The center also provides laundry, housekeeping and transportation services.

Terrible care which endangered my mother. We removed her after just a few weeks. Do not be fooled by the elegant structure. She had bruises on her wrists two days after her arrival, with no explanation from the administrator. This is not a facility equipped to care for people with dementia even though they accepted my mother when we made clear that she had dementia and was legally blind.

Springhouse Independent Living Retirement Community is in an ideal location in Boston -- near Faulkner Hospital, the Arnold Arboretum and Allandale Farm. Small for an independent living community with about 50 apartments of various sizes, in Springhouse it is easy to make friends. The grounds and building are very well maintained. The daily sit-down dinners offer three tasty entrees and an alternative menu in an attractive dining room. Transportation is provided for weekly activity trips, BSO concerts, medical appointments and weekly shopping trips. On-site programs include concerts, movies, weekly current events discussions led by residents, classical music recordings presented by a resident and guest lectures. The administration and staff members are professional and very responsive to residents' needs. Costs are reasonable for the area. My wife and I made an excellent choice.
