The Water & Sewer Division is a part of the city of Ithaca, N.Y. The division provides potable water and collects, treats and disposes wastewater. It offers plumbing inspection, water production and system maintenance services. The division has a wastewater treatment plant that offers treatment through activated sludge process, as well as removes phosphorus from the wastewater. The Water & Sewer Division also maintains a water treatment plant that serves more than 35,000 customers and produces over 3 million gallons of water per day. The division additionally handles cases related to taking water meter reading. The Water & Sewer Division is operated by the Department of Public Works, which also maintains streets and facilities, parks and forestry and engineering divisions.
