The Department of Social Services is responsible for providing benefits, services and information to families and individuals that reside in Tompkins County, N.Y. The department offers services that are related to adoption and foster parenting, protective services for adults and children, cash and emergency assistance, child support, daycare inspections and complaints, daycare for low-income families, food stamps, assistance with home energy, long-term care services, Medicaid and Medicare, emergency housing assistance, and youth and family services. The department is a division of the county s government. The Department of Social Services is headquartered in Ithaca, N.Y.
