Basic Carbide Corporation specializes in custom-made, tungsten-carbide preforms in both cobalt and nickel grades. The company produces tungsten-carbide products in a wide range of sizes and shapes to serve the needs of the metal production, forming processes, paper, wood products, material handling, mining, energy production, automotive and transportation industries. Although its products are shipped as preforms, Basic does offer centerless grinding and surface grinding on a subcontracted basis. None of this grinding is performed in house. Basic recently opened a new nickel plant in Lowbar, Pa., which also houses the company s corporate offices. Its cobalt division remains in the company s original facility in Buena Vista, Pa.
