In a spinal fusion procedure, bone graft materials are implanted in disc spaces between vertebrae or along the back of the spine. Over the course of several months, the grafted bone fuses the vertebrae together. Spinal implants are an essential tool used to stabilize the spine while the vertebrae fuse. The market for spinal implants is expected to grow rapidly for the following reasons, aging population, the failure of conservative treatments (exercise, heat, traction) to alleviate chronic lower back pain, clinical study data showing an increase in favorable outcomes using this technology, more surgeons trained to use spinal implant systems.
