- Pediatric CareAt Excell for Life Family Care & Pediatrics we offer a wide range of services and have three wonderful providers who practice Functional Medicine and 2 providers in training. Functional medicine is a blend of traditional medicine with a more holistic, or alternative approach, which is a much more patient-focused and roots-based approach.
- SnoringChew: Industrialized soft food is shrinking our mouths (and dental extractions) and destroying our breathing (and leading to sleep apnea, snoring, ADHD, and asthma). Palates of ancient skulls are much larger than ours. The constant stress of chewing is lacking from or diets, as our ancestors chewed for hours every day. You can expand our too small mouth by “mewing’ (watch on YouTube, but gist is to push the back of the tongue forward, like a wave, until the tip hits just behind the front teeth) or a Homeoblock. Also, there is a lower incidence of crooked teeth and snoring and sleep apnea in infants who were breastfed longer over those who were bottle-fed.
- Primary CareFortunately, our team is trained not only to identify the disorder, but we are the most experienced team in treatment. Tara Fox, DNP has been treating the disorder since 2010 and has treated hundreds of patients! She has worked with facilities all over the US including premier clinics like the CPAE Clinic at the University of AZ, the NIH, and John Hopkins. Her current research has brought steps towards developing a nationally recognized screening tool to educate primary care providers and encourage early diagnosis. Working with local and national universities, she is on the cutting edge of treatment and works alongside neurologists, immunologists, developmental pediatricians, PhDs, and other primary care providers to ensure care for the whole family.
- Ear InfectionsPneumonia usually lasts about 2 weeks and may require hospitalization. In some cases, this pneumonia can cause the lungs to fill with fluid and the lung tissue itself becomes stiff, resulting in severe difficulty breathing and eventually death. Other complications from having the flu include ear infections, sinusitis, bronchitis, muscle inflammation (myositis) and infections of the central nervous system or the sac around the heart (pericarditis).
- Family PracticeAmanda is an Indianapolis native and loves serving her community. She is a proud graduate of DePauw University where she cheered, was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and graduated with degrees in Biology and Spanish. For the past ten years she has worked as a PA in family medicine and urgent care and enjoys providing healthcare to people of all different backgrounds. Her own healthcare needs led her to Excell for Life and she has been so inspired by how the providers address the root cause of so many conditions and focus on nutrition, lifestyle and mental/ spiritual health. She is so excited to begin working at Excell and prays she can help empower patients to achieve their health goals, heal from chronic illness and optimize their quality of life.

- Flu ShotsI have worked in medical offices for more than 20 years now. When I first transferred from hospital work into the primary care setting, the answer to this question was, “that depends”. We used to only give flu shots to children who had chronic conditions, like diabetes, asthma, neurological and neuromuscular disorders (like cerebral palsy, seizure, or muscular dystrophy), or immune system problems. We now have better information about who is most susceptible to the flu and who is most likely to spread the illness.

- Macular DegenerationMake sure to take your 2-3 Orthomega fish oil, one Ortho Biotic probiotic, one Vitamin D 5000, and our energizing, well-absorbed Orthomolecular multivitamins—2-4 Alpha Base (with or without iron, check with your healthcare provider) or Mitocore. Vitamin D is especially important. It is the “sunshine vitamin” and it is responsible for building strong bones and protecting against a wide variety of diseases, including cancers, asthma, diabetes, arthritis, macular degeneration, and mental illness. And, most of us are Vitamin D deficient! Every vitamin and mineral in our multivitamins is essential for our health and well-being.

- Internal MedicineAmy began her work in healthcare in 2003 as a Nurse at Methodist Hospital after completing her Bachelors of Science in Nursing at Anderson University. She completed her Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Indianapolis in 2006 and has been practicing as a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner since that time. For her first 8 years of practice as an NP, she practiced Internal medicine at a large hospital yet always felt a longing to practice a more preventative approach.
- Kidney StonesParathyroid disease (hyperparathyroidism) occurs when one or more of the four parathyroid glands grows into a tumor and makes excess parathyroid hormone. Sometimes hyperparathyroidism makes people miserable within the first year or two of having high blood calcium. Other times it can go over 10 years without causing too many problems other than fatigue, bad memory, kidney stones, and osteoporosis. But hyperparathyroidism can kill people–it just takes 20 or so years to do so.

- UltrasoundCIMT (carotid intima-media thickness) noninvasive ultrasound, available nowhere else in Indiana, to assess your actual artery age and can be done yearly to monitor progress & healing. It is an even more sensitive measure of atherosclerosis than the $49 CT Heart Score and with no radiation exposure. CIMT measures the thickness of the two inner layers of the carotid artery, and will alert us to any thickening when you are still asymptomatic giving us time to bring healing! The carotid artery is the artery that transports blood from your heart to your brain. CIMT is not the same as a carotid ultrasound done in Life Screenings. Billed to your insurance or self-pay ($175).
