Butler University is a private co-educational, liberal arts and sciences-based university located in Indianapolis, Ind. Founded in 1855 by attorney and abolitionist Ovid Butler, the university occupies 20 buildings on 290 acres in the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood of Indianapolis. The university enrolls more than 4,500 students each year and offers more than 60 academic majors in both undergraduate and graduate programs. Undergraduate degrees include Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy. Graduate degrees include Master of Arts, Master of Business Administration, Master of Music and Master of Science. Butler University is home to more than 100 special interest student groups, including eight national sororities and eight national fraternities; music, dance and theatrical performance groups; a student newspaper; a yearbook and literary magazine; academic clubs and honor societies; and a student-run television station.
