General Info
Datatek's origins date back to 1988 when we began making blue line prints for the architectural/engineering trades under the name of Alabama Blueprint & Supply Co, Inc. Moving forward with changes in digital technology, the little company traded the ammonia-vapor "blue-print" machines for state-of-the-art digital printers. The change resulted in increased capabilities and additional job positions. The company has continued its growth in the local market and is the oldest operating full-service reprographic company in the region. In 2007 Datatek-USA expanded into custom signage with the procurement of a production quality, digital flatbed printer. This investment into new technology helped accommodate the growing demand from our local construction, architecture, & engineering clients for jobsite/directional signs, and presentation/rendering boards. The flatbed printer also allowed us to explore and expand into markets such as real estate, fine art, photography, schools, breweries, and many other traditional signage areas. As we expanded through the years, we saw another potential market in combining our digital printing capabilities with fine woodworking products. We could produce unique, customizable products that could still be mass produced. In early 2014, we started a new division within Datatek (which by now had absorbed Alabama Blueprint & Supply), called “Woodtech,” to better handle this new market potential. We opened a showroom and retail center in the middle of downtown Huntsville, AL within the Clinton Row Project. This enabled us to break into the local markets of home décor, gifts, custom furniture and build-outs, custom framing, and producing items for companies to retail. Through 2015, we created five new jobs to deal with the increase in demand and orders: four in production and design, and one in sales. Woodtech strives to keep a local flavor on the raw material sourcing side of things. The majority of the products we create use local art and photography of artists and photographers we have partnered with. All of our wood that we use, with the exception of plywood, is sourced from around Madison County and the North Alabama region. Wood is either reclaimed from trees that were naturally felled or needed to come down for safety reasons.
