General Info
Kevin Melody has been originating mortgage loans in Southern California since 1990. Based in Huntington Beach, Kevin's specialty is helping home buyers obtain purchase-money mortgage loans, and arranging refinances under the Home Affordable Refinance Program (HARP) for owner-occupied single-family homes, condos, manufactured homes, and 2-4 unit residential income properties, as well as vacation homes, rentals and investment property. He is a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, and author of the 2001 book "What Lenders Don't Want You To Know." "The idea that you are on your own as a consumer, guratively swimming among sharks is a fact of reality, but it is important to understand that the principle of Caveat Emptor does not apply to mortgage programs. In fact, it doesnt apply to rates, fees, terms, features, or even lending institutions. Caveat Emptor applies only to individualsproducts dont cheat you, people do. Conversely, disclosure laws and regulatory authorities do not protect you; the former is meant to guide you in protecting yourself, and the latter is just there to devise the laws and help make you whole after youve been victimized. In fact, it is my experience that the more emphasis a borrower places upon getting the lowest quote on interest rate and loan costs (i.e., the product), as opposed to nding a mortgage professional who is not only skilled, but honest and ethical (i.e., the person), the more likely he is to end up accepting terms that are signicantly different from those he expected to get. It is my opinion that the person with whom you ultimately choose to work is your best insurance of obtaining a reasonable deal. A salesperson who cannot sleep at night knowing he has done unto a client what he would never wish done unto him, will save you more money and grief than an entire encyclopedia of negotiating techniques and an Olympic stadium full of government regulators." -From the introduction to the book What Lenders Don't Want You To Know. 2001 by Kevin Michael Melody
