- Dental ExaminationIt might take multiple take multiple visits to complete a dental exam, cleaning and x-rays. To successfully complete their dental appointments, and to help gain your child’s trust we ask for your commitment of time. We do not charge for each visit, only for procedures completed and we work closely with parents to achieve success. For more information please call our office.
- X-raysIf you’re concerned about radiation exposure, talk with your dentist. We can help you weigh the pros and cons of the dental X-rays recommended.
- Teeth CleaningYour child’s lip, cheek, and tongue will be numb or “asleep” for about 2-3 hours. During this time make sure your child does not bite, scratch, or pick at these numb areas. Restrict diet to liquids (milkshake or smoothie) for the first 3 hours, and then eat soft foods for the rest of the day such as soup, yogurt, Carnation Instant Breakfast, eggs, jello etc. Child should chew on the opposite side of the filling for the first 24 hours. Gentle cleaning should be done for the first 2 days with a soft toothbrush or washcloth.
- Fluoride Treatment. It is our goal to make this and every visit to the dentist enjoyable and positive for your child. We will use a “show and tell” technique to allow your child to see, touch, play with, and understand every object he or she will come in contact with during this visit. We use age appropriate language that will help your child grasp dental ideas. During this appointment, a thorough dental exam will be performed along with x-rays, a dental cleaning and fluoride treatment. You will receive home care instructions for your child and you as well as diet counseling. We invite you to be a part of this first appointment and all the future appointments.
- Dental SealantsBoth our doctors are Board Certified Pediatric Dentists. They both went through the rigorous examination process to achieve this standing and are both constantly furthering their knowledge by participation in various continuing education opportunities. Our team has multiple certifications above and beyond the required standards such as coronal polishing and sealant licensing. They also participate in conferences on dental topics of interest, from team building to clinical knowledge, in order to better serve our patients.
- Space MaintainersIn case that your little one needs dental work (such as fillings, space maintainers, extractions, appliance fittings or emergency visits), you will visit our treatment rooms in the back of the office. Both of these rooms have overhead TVs that children can watch while getting treatment done. One of the rooms is our “Safari Room” while the other is themed “Space Travel”. Because being in these rooms requires special kind of bravery from our patients we reward them with special prizes. Parents are always welcome to accompany kids throughout this appointment.
- Fillings
- VeneersBonding of front teeth is a fragile procedure that sometimes must be redone to repair fractures and staining. Within the first 6 months we will repair all the fracture at no charge. Permanent veneer or crown will be the final solution once the bite stabilizes in the late teenage years. We will refer you to a cosmetic dentist to perform that procedure when the time comes.
- CrownsTreatment appointments with multiple fillings, or crowns, or appliances will also be encouraged to be scheduled in the morning for the same reason. We will provide you with a school note and dental appointments are an excused school absence. Older middle school and high school students can be seen in the afternoons if they do not have dental anxiety.
- Dental Bonding
- Root Canal TreatmentThe reimplanted tooth will then be splinted by the dentist (an and orthodontic wire will be attached to several teeth around the tooth in question to stabilize it and allow the tooth to attach to the bone again). Your child will need to see an endodontist (root canal specialist) soon to initiate root canal treatment in order to prevent resorption of the root.
- Oral Surgery
- Tooth Extractions
- OrthodonticsMs. Allison is one of our awesome hygienists at Heights Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics. This summer, she has been coming to Smiles for Kids to help us on Thursdays. She has been a huge help taking care of our patients and always has a positive attitude! The team really enjoys having her here! She was voted this month’s Employee of the Month!
- Invisalign OrthodonticsI don’t think anybody really likes those ooey-gooey, messy molds dentists take of your teeth for crowns, appliances, retainers, mouth guards, Invisalign, etc. Great news is we don’t have to use those anymore! We use a digital scanner called an iTero Intraoral Scanner that takes thousands of photos of your teeth (6,000 per second to be exact) and turns it into a 3D digital model! We can scan the entire mouth with our “magic wand” in just a few short minutes. That’s fast! The scanner takes only photos so no radiation is involved in the process and the scan is completely painless and atraumatic. After the scan is completed, we virtually send it to our dental lab with just the click of a button.
- Teeth WhiteningPediatric dentists welcome patients from infancy to adolescence. Babies as young as twelve months should be brought to the dentist for tooth decay prevention. These appointments educate and guide parents to keep their children’s baby teeth healthy. Toddlers are counseled about pacifier or thumb sucking habits. As for teenagers, pediatric dentists understand their need to keep a pleasing appearance. They guide their older patients to the right treatments in correcting teeth, veneers, teeth bleaching and orthodontia.
