- Teeth CleaningPeriodontitis is an active bacterial infection that has progressed past the point of gingivitis and it now affecting the amount of healthy bone that supports and surrounds your teeth. Periodontitis is diagnosed clinically by measuring pocket depths, and radiographically by evaluating bone loss and current bone levels. Periodontitis is a multi-factorial disease, meaning that there are many causes and contributions that may lead or predispose a person to this condition. Some of these include oral hygiene, professional dental cleaning maintenance, tobacco use, alcohol consumption, genetics, and many other systemic conditions such as diabetes, coranary disease, and others.
- Dental SealantsKlein Family Dental loves dental sealants for our children! We firmly believe that these wondrous things save teeth!!! We will generally recommend them for all adult molars popping up in the kiddos. Children will normally get a set of molars around the age of six and a second set around the age of twelve.
- FillingsThe only time we recommend the removal of amalgam or silver fillings is if the filling itself is compromised and no longer functioning the way it was designed to. If there is leakage, decay or fractures present that deem the filling needing replacement then we will recommend its replacement. It is important to note that it has been well documented that during the removal of the amalgam filling the patient is exposed to more mercury via airesols than the patient would likely be exposed to during their lifetime of the filling being left alone. If patients request silver filling to be removed because they feel as though they are a cosmetic concern then we will be happy to oblige under the premise of cosmetic dentistry.
- Resin CompositeHere at Klein Family Dental we primary fill teeth with composite or "tooth colored" restorations. We do use dental amalgam in certain, very specific, instances in which dental composite simply will not work. Patients are always informed and educated! If you have a lesion to be filled, and the typical composite restoration will not work, this will be discussed with you in detail. There are actually very few instances in which a tooth can not be filled or restored with the tooth colored composite type material. We do stand behind the recommendations of the American Dental Association that dental amalgam is a viable restorative material, however, for the majority of instances we find that tooth colored restorations are more advantageous, even aside from the lack of mercury exposure. One advantage of tooth colored restorations is that they allow for a more conservative prep of the tooth because they are bonded into place...yes that means less tooth structure is removed! See, metal fillings are held into place by "mechanical retention". This means that a significant portion of tooth structure is sacrificed and removed to provide an undercut to hold in the metal filling. So, not only do we save tooth structure in most instances with a tooth colored filling but we also are essentially bonding the tooth back together making the entire functioning unit much stronger. Other advantages of tooth colored restorations are that they are associated with much less hot and cold sensitivity, and they are more esthetic.
- VeneersPorcelain Veneers are a cosmetic option for many patients. Drs. Klein love to do smile makeovers and dentistry to help people feel their best. Veneers can be an excellent option to help patients achieve their cosmetic goals, but they are not for everybody. A veneer is essentially a flat piece of tooth colored dental material, usually porcelain, that is bonded to the front of the teeth. This is able to correct for many cosmetic concerns that can not be addressed in any other way. For example, if you have a tooth shape that is not esthetic, that is something that can not be corrected in any other predictable, long lasting way. Other examples can be significantly fractured teeth, certain types of stained teeth, and malformed teeth.
- CrownsA bridge is a permanent unit that allows us to replace a single missing tooth or multiple missing teeth. They work in a similar way to crowns except that you must have a crowned tooth on either side of the space. The teeth that will be crowned and anchor the appliance are called abutments. The teeth that are in the middle spanning the space are called pontics. Bridges are one of the three replacement options for missing teeth. They have similar life expectancies, and maintenance requirements to crowns. Drs. Klein would love the opportunity to discuss the best tooth replacement option with you, if you have a tooth replacement need. Please call our office today to set up an evaluation. 281-531-9258
- BridgesThe top picture shows an implant based fixed bridge used to restore all the teeth in an arch. This may be used on either top or bottom, and is a non-removable appliance. The bottom picture shows a dentures that is being retained by implants. This is a unit that is removable but once "snapped" into place is very stable unlike plain dentures. This is called an "overdenture".

- Root Canal TreatmentRoot Canal therapy is a treatment modality that is indicated whenever the nerve space within your tooth has been invaded or damaged. The root canal treatment is a process in which we essentially remove the damaged nerve and vasculature, clean out and sanitize the space, and fill it in with a filling material. The end result is basically a "cleaned-out" tooth. There are many reasons why root canal therapy might be a recommended treatment option. One is for tooth decay. Sometimes when decay on a tooth is extensive and has reached the nerve space, then the nerve space is considered to be contaminated and root canal therapy is indicated. Other examples can include a fractured or cracked tooth. In these cases, the trauma to the tooth can cause the pulpal tissue to die or become so inflammed that root canal treatment is necessary. Also, a fracture on a tooth may allow a pathway for bacteria to invade the nerve space, at which time root canal treatment is indicated. Many people have a perception that root canal treatment is a horrible experience. With the techniques that we use at Klein Family Dental, root canal treatment can be a very comfortable experience. Please allow us the opportunity to discuss with you why root canal treatment may be an excellent restorative option for you.
- Deep CleaningScaling and root planing is a therapy that we will recommend to help treat periodontitis. This is essentially a "deep-cleaning." During this procedure, either Dr. Aric or Dr. Amy will put your gums to sleep so that the cleaning procedure will be completely comfortable. After the anesthetic, one of the hygienists will be able to do the deep cleaning. The idea is that we are able to clean to the base of your pockets and plane the root surfaces so they are nice and smooth and less likely to harbor bacteria. Many patients respond very well to this procedure and with 3 month maintenance visits are able to manage their periodontal condition.
- Dentures2. A Fixed Partial Denture Commonly referred to as a Bridge: This is usually the middle of the road option, but sometimes the best. The advantages of a Bridge are its permanence, and esthetics. The disadvantages are the price, and the invasiveness.
- OverdenturesAn over denture is a great option for many patients. This type of prosthesis aims to please those who want more stability than a typical denture, but who don't want to make the investment from a hybrid type denture. An over denture is made to look much like a typical denture however it is combined with a few implants (usually 2-4) that are fitted with an o-ring type attachment. Once the patient places their overdenture into their mouth, they are able to "snap" it into place using the ball and o-ring attachments that have been placed on the implants. This as you can imagine will increase the stability of the appliance significantly! PS- Typical dentures can usually be retrofitted into an over denture scenerio! So, if you have a set of typical dentures, and retention is a problem for you, we would love to talk to you about retro-fitting them into stability!!!
- Dental Implants3. Implant Dentistry: This is usually the top of the line treatment option if you are a good health candidate. The advantages of this option are the esthetics, and the ability to preserve adjacent tooth structure. The disadvantages of this procedure are the price, the time needed for completion, and that a surgery is indicated.

Dr. Amy would love the chance to meet with you, evaluate your current tooth position, and discuss your goals. - Invisalign OrthodonticsInvisalign begins with a whole lot of record taking. Notes, impressions, radiographs, and pictures, oh my! All of your records get shipped away to the Invisalign lab and worked up into a very advanced dental software. Using this software, the lab technicians, and Dr. Amy will be able to fabricate an aligner system that will accomplish your goals.
- Teeth WhiteningZoom whitening is usually a great option for lightening the shade of your teeth! The main advantage of Zoom whitening is... instant gratification! You have your results right when you leave your appointment! This procedure is perfect for patients who may be in a hurry to whiten for a special occasion. Zoom also works well for patients who feel that they will not be able to comply with a two-week or more whitening regimen. This in-office, one-hour whitening is a very efficient procedure that then lets patients move forward with maintenance only. Zoom is the most expensive whitening option, but offers great rewards! The end results offered by Zoom are also available with other more cost efficient systems, given that the patient will comply with the process and has the available time to do so.
