Dr. Reena Kumar, MD is a Child, Adolescent, and Adult psychiatrist. She earned her Medical Degree from India, and completed her General Psychiatry Residency at The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. Dr. Kumar pursued her passion to work with children and completed Child & Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at Dell Medical School at The University of Texas in Austin. Dr. Kumar has also received accolades for family therapy,mindfulness and self-compassion work. Dr. Kumar follows a biopsychosocial approach to treat her patients and always makes families an integral part of the treatment team. Because of her experience in therapy and mindfulness meditation, she connects very easily with patients and their families. “Combination of medication and therapy works like peanut butter jelly combined together.” Her areas of clinical interest include PTSD due to abuse, ADHD, depression, anxiety/OCD, behavioral problems, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. Dr. Kumar has also presented seminars and workshops in local communities to spread mental health awareness, mindfulness, self-compassion, and parenting. “We all have to come together to remove mental health stigma from our society.
