Bayor College of Medicine, founded in 1900 as the University of Dallas Medical Department, is one of the oldest medical institutions in the United States. Located in Houston's Texas Medical Center, a 740-acre complex of 42 independent institutions, BCM became an independent institution in 1969 and is affiliated with Baylor University. The college has affiliations with seven teaching hospitals, such as Ben Taub General Hospital, Harris County Hospital District, Institute for Rehabilitation and Research, Menninger Clinic, Methodist Hospital, Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital and Texas Children's Hospital. It has more than 90 research and patientcare centers and units and trains over 3,000 medical, graduate, nurse anesthesia, physician assistant students and residents and postdoctoral students.
