  When Dr. Mentz was completing his general surgery residency, he recognized that his skill and interest drew him to cosmetic plastic and reconstructive work. He enjoyed the attention to detail and the challenges presented by each individual case in facial plastic surgery. He decided to pursue cosmetic surgery as a specialty and entered the plastic surgery fellowship that brought him to Houston.
• Ear Surgery
  Local or general anesthesia is administered during the one to three hour surgery and stitches can be removed in one week. Postoperative bandages are applied to the head following surgery. Children recover in about one week and adults usually return to work in about five days. Other reconstructive ear surgery applications are available such as operations performed on the earlobes and forming new ears when necessary.

  Dr. Rodriguez completed her six-year residency training at Texas A&M University College of Medicine/Scott & White Hospital where she worked under nationally-recognized leaders in plastic surgery. Dr. Rodriguez received a grant to conduct research on post-surgical scars and presented her findings at several regional and national meetings. • Blepharoplasty
  When undergoing upper or lower eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), the procedure begins with the patient being given anesthesia to numb the area. During the procedure, incisions will be made along the eyelids to remove excess skin, fat, and muscle tissue. These incisions are typically made on the inside of the eyelid so they are not visible after the surgery is complete. After these excess tissues have been removed, the remaining skin will be redraped and secured in place. Depending on the patient’s needs, other surgical techniques may be used to improve the appearance of the eyelids.

• Nose Surgery
  Computer imaging with ACPS will help you determine the size and shape of your nose. Factors that influence the final results include the structure of your nasal bones and cartilage, the shape of your face the thickness of your skin and your age. Cosmetic nose surgery may be performed on female patients as young as 15 or males as young as 17. However, your plastic surgeon will need to make this determination. Depending upon the procedures performed, a splint may be applied to the nose to help maintain its shape. Soft plastic splints may be placed in your nostrils to stabilize the airway and are removed in 5-7 days.
