BP America is a division of BP, which stands for British Petroleum. BP America has many of the same areas of business, research and operations as its parent company. BP America is involved in oil exploration and production. Pipelines and shipping are also regular parts of the company's operation of moving valuable commodity from areas of production and refinement. Refining the gasoline from crude oil is an important operation. BP America also has a vast franchise system of gas stations that are found throughout the United States. Following a series of mergers and acquisitions with Amoco, ARCO, Burmah Castrol and Vastar, BP became the largest oil and gas producer and one of the largest gasoline retailers in the United States.
