Founded in 1889, the Harris County Department of Education provides public educational services. It operates human resources, record management, research and evaluation, adult education, construction, communication, and maintenance and operations divisions. The department offers educational programs and services for business managers, communities, educators and students. The Harris County Department s therapy service division provides assessment, intervention, consultation, training and direct services for more than 6,000 children with disabilities. Its special schools division operates three programs, including the Academic and Behavior Center, Highpoint School and Zenith Project. In addition, the department offers training services in classroom management, school security and emergency preparedness. The Harris County Department of Education is located in Houston.
