The Hoover Fire Department is governed by the City of Hoover in Alabama. The Hoover Fire Department operates more than five fire stations and covers an area of over 50 square miles. Its fire prevention bureau provides inspection, investigation, and public and life safety education training services. The department operates a hazardous material and high angle unit, as well as confined space rescue and swift water rescue team. The Hoover Fire Department participates in SAFEPLACE, which is a national program that encourages children and youth to seek assistance at neighborhood fire stations. The department also operates a hazardous material response unit that responds to the spills of dangerous substances and environmental emergencies. It responds to nearly 9180 incidents annually.
