• Gum Surgery
  Local Anesthesia: This is the most common type of anesthesia used in dentistry. It numbs a specific area of the mouth and is used for procedures such as fillings, root canals, or gum surgery. Local anesthetics such as lidocaine are injected near the site of the procedure.
• Tooth Extractions
  Tooth extraction is generally a quick and simple procedure. To ensure your comfort, we administer local anesthesia to the extraction location. The most crucial phase is the recovery process. Our primary objective is to facilitate proper healing immediately after the tooth extraction. To achieve this, we will provide you with a gauze pad to bite down on for approximately 30 to 45 minutes, to control bleeding and allow for a blood clot to form. It is essential to handle the blood clot with extreme care for the next 24 hours. To manage swelling that may occur, we recommend applying an ice pack to the outer cheek. Gentle rinsing with warm salt water is also beneficial in maintaining cleanliness in the extraction area.
• Bone Grafting
  The second treatment is called bone grafting and is often required when bacteria and plaque have reached the jawbone and caused some amount of deterioration and decay. Your dentist must surgically access the damaged jawbone in order to regenerate it. This is accomplished by applying proteins and artificial bone-like material to the areas of decay. She attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she received undergraduate and graduate degrees in Accountancy. After working as a CPA for a couple of years, she decided to change careers and pursue dentistry. Her decision to become an orthodontist arose through the powerful impact of her own orthodontic treatment and her desire to create the same experience for others. She went on to attend dental school at Midwestern University in Downers Grove, where she was a part of the inaugural graduating class. After obtaining her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree, she went on to complete a 3-year orthodontic residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago. In addition to her Certificate in Orthodontics, Dr. Lauren earned a Master’s in Oral Sciences degree for her research pertaining to the accuracy of tracking orthodontic tooth movement using Dental Monitoring™ smartphone technology. Her work has also been published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics.

  Dr. Robert M. Thies completed his undergraduate degree at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as a recipient of the Western Golf Association Chick Evans Scholarship. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Illinois College of Dentistry in Chicago, Illinois as a recipient of the Illinois Congressional Scholarship. Dr. Thies completed his General Practice Residency program in advanced general dentistry, hospital dental treatment and special needs care at the Loyola-Foster McGaw Hospital in Maywood, Illinois. He was appointed a chief resident of the program before moving to Manhattan, Kansas where he received externship training at the original Dental Implant Centre.
