General Info
Working with people in relationship crisis. Many of my clients seek counseling to help resolve a volatile situation or crisis in a key relationship, whether with a spouse or partner, family member, friend, or colleague at work. They find that working with the problem in a structured, therapeutic environment can open up new possibilities for resolution. Couples / Marital Therapy I work with couples to help them move out of a crisis or stagnant mode and into a vibrant and growing relationship. Couples often present with problems of financial issues, infidelity, insecurity, instability, conflict, and distrust. I support clients who want to develop a stronger "us" component and identity that is experienced as loving, trustworthy, and thriving—while equally emphasizing individual responsibility and health. Family and Child/Adolescent Therapy I work with families who have members struggling with anxiety and attention difficulties, disrespectful and troubled teens, grief, addictions, and distance. I support families in the purposeful yet difficult work of parenting through issues such as discipline, establishing deeper relationships, communication, and leading the family. I have the privileged experience of working with traditional, divorced, blended, and multicultural families. Working with feelings of stress, frustration, anxiety, depression, and other unsatisfactory emotions. Many of my clients come experiencing a general dissatisfaction with life rooted in their day-to-day living, rather than in a specific crisis. I have discovered that proactively working with these feelings in therapy helps my clients deal with them before they have the opportunity to manifest themselves in a specific problem. Working with cross-cultural environments and relationships. Being a Spanish-speaking person with extensive overseas travel, I have a particular sensitivity to the conflicts that can arise from cultural issues here in America. This has helped me work successfully with clients struggling with cultural identity, third-culture issues, intercultural marriages, generational conflict, and race-based workplace issues.
