The Hoffman Estates Fire Department is overseen by a chief, deputy chief and fire marshal. The organization is staffed by more than 90 sworn firefighters, the majority of whom are also paramedics. The Hoffman Estates Fire Department primarily extinguishes fires and removes household pets from dangerous situations. Hoffman Estates is a northwestern suburb of Chicago. The main section of Hoffman Estates was established in 1959, and the section north of State Highway 62 was developed in the 1970s. Hoffman Estates is located primarily in Cook County with a small section in Kane County, Ill. As of the 2000 census, the community's population was 49,495. The village serves as the headquarters location for the Sears Holdings Corporation.
