General Info

When they first opened, the couple had no idea their modest business would someday evolve into a multi-store supermarket chain, employing over 800 associates. The couple simply believed they were assisting family and friends obtain necessary grocery and household items. Early on, Koichi began taking grocery orders from Hilo families and delivered the much needed merchandise by bicycle. In time, the couple built their pick-up and delivery business to the point where they were able to afford a "real" store. By 1940, a branch store was established in downtown Hilo. This proved to be a wise decision, when the original structure the couple began with, was destroyed by the tsunami of 1946. This branch (Keawe) store was converted into a supermarket in 1953, and was later followed by the opening of the Kailua-Kona store in 1959 (relocated to its present location in 1975). Just seven (7) years later, the Puainako store was opened, followed by Keauhou in 1984, Waimea in 1989 and the Waikoloa Village Market in 1990. For over 93 years, KTA Super Stores has been committed to our founder's philosophy, which is a commitment to humbly serve the people of our community.

The Keawe Street address maximizes its limited space and older building by maintaining an adequate stock of sale and everyday products...KTA has the freshest produce at the lowest cost in town! Exceptional staff that will keep me shopping there! <mahalo!

Good quality for the price

For just needing to pick up a few things downtown KTA is the place to go. You can not beat the prices nor the freshest of meats and produce. A very good store that so needs to have a makeover! If you really need to do major shopping try KTA Puainako. A much larger super market, with many more products then Keawe. Make sure you take your newspaper coupons. As all KTA's still use the "coupon" thing to draw in customers.Parking: Keawe KTA parking is limited, very limited, keep your fingers crossed and your eyes open!KTA Super Stores have something for everyone, a one stop shopping store. Puainako has a pharmacy, deli, meat/seafood dept, camera dept. Also in the store one can find a travel agent and Bank Of Hawaii, along with a 76 gas station, Pizza Hut, Jack in the Box in the same parking lot.KTA's motto is "You're Someone Special Everyday At KTA"Check them out today and see what you think. :) Aloha
