General Info
Forty years of successful business established in 1968. We welcome you to the beautiful cabochon domain of The JayHawk Rock Shop. There is a habit normal to all rock hounds and that is to high grade some of the best and save a little for yourself, until last. Well the JayHawk ( Richard "Dick" Henry ) has done exactly that for forty years and now he is offering to the public for sale, some of the best and rarest rock and cabochons available. There are many stones that have been mined out for decades and some that are very rare and the JayHawk has an excellent choice of these stones in cabochons. The finish and quality of his cabochons are among the best. We have been wholesale for several years, and we at the JayHawk Rock Shop stand behind our product and aim to please. We offer thousands of cabochons at prices you will not believe and much more. We invite you to explore our domain and enjoy the beautiful collections of cabochons for sale along with many different styles of unique jewelry designed by Peggy Sue, Richard and other very talented friends and accomplished artists. Richard began collecting rocks as a hobby in 1959. He began selling and cutting rocks and minerals forty years ago. During the early years was among one of the first importers of Brazilian amethyst geodes, rocks & minerals and everything else that Brazil exported related to rocks. Large containers filled with six hundred pound barrels of everything in the rough and finished rock & minerals that Brazil exported at the time was shipped for several years to Quartzsite AZ and received by the JayHawk. From there the load was sold to hundreds of stores and customers from all over the world. It has been a very happy but hard on the physical body business. Rock hounding is very contagious and once it grabs hold of you its extremely hard to let it go. There are so many beautiful things under this dirt that we walk on and it is really rewarding to bring them to the surface and expose them to the world. As a major part of his business since 1976 the JayHawk has bought out rock shops that were closing their doors forever, from all over the United States. Many times the older rock shops had materials and rocks that had been mined out for decades. Richard also bought from miners and prospectors over the years. What treasures these items are now and many have been turned into cabochons for your enjoyment and creativity. There was a special couple in Colorado cutting cabochons of choice materials for JayHawk Rock Shop for several years. Later imported cabochons were brought into the USA by hundreds of pounds and most were done on machines that produced only calibrated sizes that would fit only certain sizes of metal findings. Some findings were made of pot metal while others were made of sterling, gold filled and 14karet gold ; however there was a one size-fits-most in calibrated cabochons for the findings. Since then Free Formed Cabochons have become very popular and many jewelers and designers who are outstanding in their craft now search for rare and unique material for their contemporary designs. Now we offer outstanding free formed and calibrated cabochons in dozens of designer shapes in rare quality material. We also offer the Beads to Buckskins Craft Books a series of twelve volumes to inspire and teach those who wish to design jewelry with beads and cabochons.
