General Info
Our Philosophy at Process Learning Tutoring Center (PLTC):PLTC believes in a Diagnostic-Prescriptive Philosophy whereby students' strengths, borderline strengths, and weaknesses are analyzed extensively to diagnose specific skill gaps causing the students to struggle. From the diagnostic evaluations, individualized academic prescriptions are designed to remediate/correct all skill gaps. PLTC implements a Process-Teaching/Process-Learning Approach in all instructional programs that involves Step-By-Step processes that can be mastered by the student. We believe that struggling students can become super students with proven effective instruction. "Barring a neurological diagnosis, such as Down's Syndrome, - not just a "learning disability" - students can /should be able to perform on/above the appropriate grade level in reading, writing, spelling, and math with no exceptions. Anything less does a grave disservice to the student. Students can achieve high expectations and positive self-esteem when they experience success. We believe teacher accountability must be expected before student accountability. Students cannot be expected to show mastery of skills and concepts if the teacher has not effectively taught and reinforced them. PLTC believes that documentation of what is actually being taught is the key to true accountability. All of our tutorial sessions are all very well documented. PLTC believes in direct and guided-teaching, not just plugging students into worksheets or a computer. Active Participation is the key to academic success. PLTC utilizes the proven effective factor of Process-Oriented- not product. We believe in teaching your child the Step-by-Step processes as tools for their entire academic lives and future - not the product of an answer or just for passing a test. PLTC believes in "Learning by doing" by modeling teacher instruction until the effective degree of reinforcement achieved for students to demonstrate a high degree of individual long-term mastery of skills/concepts. Our Multi-Sensory Processes incorporate all learning modes of visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile. PLTC believes in a proven effective, inter-disciplinary curriculum that correlates reading, spelling/phonics, grammar, and composition/essay writings to other subjects of math (especially word problems), science, social studies, history, and civics. Students need to be able to read, write, spell, and edit all concepts and skills being taught in all subjects. "Learning can be fun," when using worksheets but are kept to a minimum and we focus on motivated, fun, sensory, and varied activities using association utilizes retention aids "secret codes", to aid in the short-term and long-term mastery of all skills /concepts. We believe optional homework will aid students to progress at a faster pace and is explained thoroughly by step-by-step examples. All homework should always be discussed with the students-not just having the teacher call out the answers
