The Hickory Police Department is a full-service municipal police agency. It has a staff of more than 130 full-time sworn officers and civil personnel. The agency operates community service, marine and special operations units. The Hickory Police Department offers a variety of services, such as community policing and statistics, criminal investigations, domestic violence and street crime interdiction. It also offers several support services, including gun registration, animal control, and traffic and parking enforcement. In addition, the agency provides a range of victim services that includes informing victims of available services with processing of compensation claims, providing counseling and training, preparing the victim for court proceedings, and referring the victim to local, state and federal support groups.
