Lebanese immigrant Albert George, along with other family members, bought some second-hand cone-baking machines and started the George & Thomas Cone Company in 1918. That company is still owned and operated by the George family, together with the employees, and is now known as Joy Cone Company. It is one of the largest ice cream cone companies in the world, baking over 1.5 billion cones per year. The company owns and operates its own fleet of trucks that distribute cones throughout Canada and the United States. Joy Cone Company manufactures cones from two facilities in the U.S., one in Pennsylvania and one in Arizona. The plant in Hermitage, Pa., offers tours for up to 15 persons from August through November. Joy Cone Company maintains corporate headquarters in Hermitage.
